SkillChain-Gym: A Benchmark for Reskilling-Aware Production-Inventory Control under Disruptions

SkillChain-Gym is introduced as a benchmark for reskilling-aware production-inventory control, addressing the integration of workforce capabilities into production planning. It features a single-site environment with dynamics such as skill-state changes, certification lapses, and training actions competing for worker hours, evaluated over 60-shift horizons. The findings indicate that training-capable policies outperform traditional production-only approaches, highlighting the importance of adaptive training strategies and the need for forecast-driven controllers to manage skill insurance amidst disruptions.
