Generativism: Toward a Learning Theory for the Age of Generative Artificial Intelligence
The article introduces "Generativism," a new learning theory designed for the context of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in education, addressing the limitations of traditional theories like behaviorism and cognitivism. It outlines four key principles: epistemic partnership, distributed agency, generative literacy, and adaptive metacognition, which emphasize the collaborative nature of learning between humans and AI systems. This framework is significant for practitioners as it provides a structured approach to instructional design and assessment in environments increasingly influenced by generative AI technologies.
