When Correct Edges Cannot Be Verified: A Provenance Gap in Incomplete KGQA and a Provenance-Favoring Completion Policy

The paper introduces TGComplete, a provenance-favoring admission policy designed to address the limitations of Incomplete Knowledge Graph Question Answering (IKGQA) by focusing on the verifiability of completed edges. It highlights that 76-96% of gold-correct completed edges lack textual support, indicating that textual faithfulness measures provenance rather than correctness. TGComplete improves edge precision significantly (15-21% vs 3-14% against the baseline) while maintaining answer accuracy, thus providing a valuable approach for practitioners to navigate the trade-off between precision and recall in edge completion tasks where auditability is critical.
