Expert-Level Crisis Detection in Mental Health Conversations

The authors introduced CRADLE-Dialogue, a clinician-annotated benchmark for turn-level crisis detection in mental health conversations, featuring 600 dialogues with multi-label annotations for various risks such as suicide ideation and self-harm. They also released a synthetic training corpus and a 32B-parameter model that outperforms existing open-source models, achieving competitive results against proprietary systems, with Micro F1 scores ranging from mid-40% to high-60%. This work is significant for practitioners as it addresses the challenges of tracking evolving risk signals in multi-turn dialogues, enhancing the potential for timely intervention in crisis situations.
