JustDiag!: A Diagnostic Justification Engine for Accountable Root Cause Analysis

JustDiag is introduced as a diagnostic justification engine designed to enhance root cause analysis (RCA) by providing explicit evidence and reasoning behind diagnoses in high-stakes operations. The system was evaluated on 66 real-world incidents, demonstrating improved outcome and process scores compared to a control group, though it yielded slightly lower terminal completion due to a focus on calibrated non-closure. This highlights the necessity for accountability in RCA through structured diagnostic justification and process-aware evaluations, which are critical for practitioners developing reliable AI systems.
